OK!!!! Where were we before we were so rudely interrupted? Oh yes, we were causing stress and uproar in the Veto Talks.
Unfortunatel
y, the previous thread was lost in the data smash. We saved most posts, but not those. I was tempted to start the veto from scratch, but I did have the Part one results saved, so, we'll start with things at Part 2.
To recap: in Part one, the judges were allowed to put any project that was voted to a #0 on the chopping block, giving their strong reasons. Unanimose vote was required to make any change, and they indeed unanimously agreed that In-Flight Service needed to be moved down to the MVA Cover project section...where it sits now, and will remain.
This brought Shamrock: Origins up into a #0 slot. However, we already know the judges are rumbling about more moves in Part 2...where they are allowed to nominate and move UP any project they can reasonably argue and get agreement on. We are going to ask the judges to start THERE, since we don't have the previous posts. Here are the CURRENT standings (I'm going to leave the numbers in this time, so people don't have to go look up numbers elsewhere):
1.) 691 Votes (+52) - 84 Voters ( +2) Warpath 2.) 652 Votes (+58) - 117 Voters ( +8) The Adventures of Spud 3.) 439 Votes (+33) - 77 Voters ( +3) Shamrock _________________Li

So there it is, it is now time to dig in and get through the rest of this talk...

two of us...i think Keith and I, both agreed to move Tokyo Gonzo up. for me this was decided by two things.
one, TG has the chops. it deserves to be there without a doubt. they have the talent. they have the polish, and they brought in enough voters for me to take them seriously. they didn't get nearly the repeat voting that some other titles did...but to me the number of voters speaks equally as loud as number of total votes.
the other big thing in my mind is there's still a title in the top three that did not submit a complete round 3 entry. while they did submit finished work later, once the voting was in progress, the fact remains they did not hit the deadline in question and that concerns me greatly. i called out IFS for turning in an incomplete submission and i'd be remiss if i didn't do the same thing in this case.
Cary has placed Tokyo Gonzo for a move up, We'll need Keith's and Rogers votes on the matter, and see if there are any other nominations from them. Ian Shires, CEO P.O. Box 214 Madison, OH 44057
I have to concur with the rationale being qualified here by Cary. TG far exceeded my own expectations with the awesome visual language, story pacing, and overall presentation of that property. It met the completion guidelines and it certainly shows a lot of spirit and passion, as well as talent, that has gone into the creative and literary side of this project.

Wow...well, ok. I'm not sure I agree with that completely, though looking back over the sequentials, they ARE very good. And, with no other projects nominated, that Ends part two. Tell you the truth folks, I really thought Geek Girl might have been put up over any of those others - for their phenomenal overcoming effort and 2.0 campaign...But be that as it may...here are the current standings...

Not we will move on to Part 3!!!! The question we NOW post to the judges: Are there any projects currently in the MVA Cover Feature section that do NOT deserve their spots?
Let's hear it judges... Ian Shires, CEO P.O. Box 214 Madison, OH 44057
i'm fairly happy with the cover features where they are at this point. i don't think any of these titles are undeserving of the cover feature, so unless there's overwhelmingly good argument....i'd leave em alone. Blog l Myspace l Comicspace l CAG
Sorry, Geek Girl is just too 'chick flick' and soap operish in tone for me to have even considered it. The sequentials for it, although well drawn, was lacking in any degree of excitement that would have allured me to think otherwise. The concept just never captivated me.
I just returned to review the MVA finalists.

I like their classic look and feel and the whole array of well-defined characters.
Initially I found this project to have characters with unimaginative super powers and/or abilities, hoping to see something more unique and creative, but progressively through the rounds this property did eventually catch my eye. I just reviewed each of these bottom-of-the-line projects and this one, NYH, just stands alone in both qualitative and talent appeal. To me it belongs above this line.
That's my pick.

Well, we have New York Heroes placed for moving up. Roger thinks the public vote doesn't reflect the true potential, so we will see how the other 2 judges feel about that...and if there are further nominations... Ian Shires, CEO P.O. Box 214 Madison, OH 44057

Roger agrees with that assertion, Ian. As a late believer in this project, it has that potential, and we have passed projects forward in rounds based on the power of potential before. I think this one deserves to be escalated.

You guys realize, if Geek Girl falls below the line, I'm gonna have a 90210 hissy fit...
That said, That's 2 votes for moving New York Heroes up, and Keith yet to be heard from on that matter... Ian Shires, CEO P.O. Box 214 Madison, OH 44057

Keith has been having trouble logging in. I've tested his account and can log in as him, but he still seems unable to do so, and we haven't figured it all out yet.
In e-mail, he has told me that he agrees to Move UP New York Heroes. So up it goes. It does give me serious issue to look at this veto process and address how to do things different and better next year.
Anyway, with that, and no further nominations, the Final Standings for Round 3 are as follows:
1.) 691 Votes (+52) - 84 Voters ( +2) Warpath 2.) 652 Votes (+58) - 117 Voters ( +8) The Adventures of Spud 3.) 357 Votes (+23) - 71 Voters ( +4) Tokyo Gonzo _________________Li

Geek Girl Team: While the standings here are disappointing to what I found to be a hugely impressive 2.0 campaign...I want to state publicly at this point that I'm going to get behind that project, and we're going to see more of it.
To all the MVA cover projects: I'll be in touch very soon about getting those covers in so we can start pre-sales of your individual issues, and all MVA-appearing projects, remember, we do want all projects in by July 15th.
The Top 3? Will be getting the Round 4 e-mail soon as well, we've got one more round of this contest to see who Small Press Idol of 2008 will be!
I'll set this out for public comments, but PLEASE, if you have ideas and suggestions about next year's contest, put them in the THREAD specific to that topic. Please keep this topic about congratulating the projects for jobs well done.

sorry about this, seems to only work on one computer at my workplace. Yes I officially agreed with the other two judges wholeheartedly that NYH should move up the ladder! Thanks and sorry for the delay. Keith M.
I'd quite like to hear the full reasons from the judges as to why they bumped up NY Heroes without taking into account everything we achieved--which I detailed in my 'Idol 2009 suggestions' post. Very little reason has been given for the bump up other than NY Heroes has grown on them somewhat and they can see potential.
I'm not in any way making this an us vs. NY Heroes thing, I would've felt the same if any other thing had caused us to lose the slot which I feel we more than earned.
